Irish independence

Irish independence refers to the process by which Ireland separated from British rule, culminating in the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922. The struggle for independence involved political movements and armed conflict, notably the 1916 Easter Rising and the subsequent War of Independence. The Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, which created a self-governing dominion, marked a key milestone. However, this led to civil conflict between pro- and anti-Treaty factions. Ultimately, the Free State later became the Republic of Ireland in 1949, fully severing ties with the British monarchy.
