The Irish War of Independence
The Irish War of Independence (1919–1921) was a conflict between Irish nationalist groups seeking independence from Britain and the British government. Organized mainly by the Irish Republican Army (IRA), it involved guerrilla warfare, ambushes, and sabotage against British forces and officials in Ireland. The struggle arose from longstanding tensions over British rule and Irish self-governance. The conflict ended with the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which established the Irish Free State as a self-governing dominion, though it also led to the Irish Civil War over the treaty's terms. It was a pivotal step toward Irish independence.
