Emiliano Zapata

Emiliano Zapata was a prominent Mexican revolutionary leader, born in 1879. He is best known for advocating for agrarian reform and land rights for peasant farmers during the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). Zapata led the Zapatista movement, which sought to return land to the people and challenged the existing land distribution system dominated by wealthy elites. His rallying cry was "Tierra y Libertad" (Land and Liberty), symbolizing his commitment to social justice. Zapata's legacy continues to inspire movements for land reform and social equality in Mexico and beyond. He was assassinated in 1919, but remains a symbol of resistance.
