Birsa Munda
Birsa Munda (1875-1900) was an influential tribal leader and folk hero from India, particularly known for his role in the Indian independence movement. He led the Munda Rebellion against British colonial rule in the late 19th century, advocating for the rights of indigenous people and fighting against oppressive land policies. Birsa sought to establish "Mundari Raj," where tribal communities could live freely. His legacy is celebrated in Indian history, particularly in Jharkhand, and he is regarded as a symbol of the struggle for social justice and tribal rights. Birsa Munda Jayanti is observed annually in his honor.
