Santhal Hul
The Santhal Hul was a significant tribal uprising in 1855-56, led by the Santhal tribe in what is now India. Frustrated by oppressive British colonial policies and the exploitation of their land by landlords and moneylenders, the Santhals sought to reclaim their rights and improve their living conditions. The revolt began in present-day Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha, and emphasized the rejection of external authority. Although ultimately suppressed, the movement highlighted the struggles of indigenous communities against colonial power and set a precedent for future resistance in India, contributing to the broader narrative of anti-imperialist movements.
