Santal Rebellion of 1855-56
The Santal Rebellion of 1855-56 was an uprising by the Santal people, an indigenous tribe in eastern India, against British colonial rule and oppressive practices of landlords (zamindars). The Santals sought to reclaim their rights, land, and traditional way of life, leading to widespread violence in the region. Their rebellion was fueled by grievances over exploitation and injustice. Although the revolt was eventually suppressed by British forces, it highlighted the struggles of tribal communities against colonial exploitation and is remembered as a significant moment in India's resistance history.
