Anomie

Anomie is a sociological concept that describes a state of normlessness or breakdown of social standards in a society. It occurs when individuals feel disconnected from the values and rules that typically guide their behavior, often due to rapid change or uncertainty. This feeling can lead to a sense of isolation, confusion, or frustration, ultimately affecting people's relationships and mental well-being. Anomie was popularized by the sociologist Émile Durkheim, who studied its effects on society, particularly in relation to crime, suicide, and a general sense of disillusionment.
