Afghan War

The Afghan War refers to a series of conflicts in Afghanistan, notably beginning in 2001 when the U.S. invaded to dismantle the Taliban regime, which had sheltered al-Qaeda after the September 11 attacks. The conflict aimed to eliminate terrorism and promote democracy. Despite initial successes, the war became protracted, involving complex issues like tribal dynamics, governance, and foreign intervention. The U.S. and NATO sought to train Afghan forces, but the situation remained unstable, leading to a resurgence of the Taliban. The U.S. formally ended its combat mission in 2014, yet challenges persist, culminating in the Taliban's return to power in 2021.
