Warsaw Uprising

The Warsaw Uprising was a major World War II resistance effort by the Polish underground, aimed at liberating Warsaw from Nazi German occupation. It began on August 1, 1944, as part of a broader strategy to establish Polish control before the Soviet Army’s arrival. The uprising was marked by intense urban combat and civilian suffering, lasting 63 days before being suppressed by German forces. Despite the bravery and determination of the fighters, the uprising ended in tragedy, resulting in large-scale destruction of the city and significant loss of life, while ultimately failing to achieve its immediate goals.
