General Władysław Anders

General Władysław Anders (1892-1970) was a prominent Polish military leader during World War II. Initially, he served in the Polish army and became a key figure after Poland was invaded by Germany and the Soviet Union in 1939. Anders commanded Polish forces in the Middle East, notably leading the 2nd Polish Corps, which fought alongside Allied troops in Italy, particularly at the Battle of Monte Cassino. After the war, he became a symbol of Polish resilience and an advocate for Poland’s independence in exile, contributing to Polish military and cultural life until his death in London.
