United Nations Human Rights Council
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental body within the UN responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world. Established in 2006, it reviews countries' human rights records, addresses violations, and guides international human rights standards. The council consists of 47 member countries elected by the UN General Assembly, which meet regularly to discuss issues like freedom of speech, discrimination, and violence. It also provides support to those defending human rights and can set up special investigations or reports on specific situations or countries facing human rights challenges.
