Royalist Cause

The Royalist Cause refers to the support for monarchies, particularly during historical conflicts like the English Civil War (1642-1651). Royalists, or Cavaliers, backed King Charles I and believed in the divine right of kings, asserting that monarchs should rule with absolute power. They opposed Parliament's growing influence and the rise of republicanism. This conflict ultimately centered on issues of authority, governance, and the rights of the people versus the ruler. Royalists fought to maintain the king's power and traditional order, while their opponents, the Parliamentarians, sought to limit that power and enhance democratic governance.
