
Prince Rupert of the Rhine
Prince Rupert of the Rhine (1619-1682) was a German soldier and nobleman known for his role in the English Civil War as a key commander for the Royalists, supporting King Charles I. Born into a prominent family, he was skilled in cavalry tactics and earned a reputation for bravery in battle. Rupert also made contributions to science and the arts, notably inventing the "Rupert's drop," a glass object with unique properties. After the war, he spent time in exile and later served in various military roles in Europe. His life reflects the tumultuous politics and warfare of 17th-century Europe.
