New Model Army

The New Model Army was a professional, centrally organized armed force created by the English Parliament during the English Civil War (1642–1651). Unlike earlier militias, it was a disciplined, paid, and well-trained army that operated with a centralized command. Its formation helped the Parliament secure military victories against the Royalists, who supported King Charles I. The New Model Army was notable for its effectiveness, innovations in military strategy, and political influence, playing a crucial role in the eventual establishment of the Commonwealth of England and shaping modern military organization and political ideas about civilian control of the military.
