Myocardium
The myocardium is the thick, muscular layer of the heart wall responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. It sits between the outer layer (epicardium) and the inner layer (endocardium) of the heart. The myocardium is made up of a special type of muscle called cardiac muscle, which is unique for its strength and endurance. This muscle contracts rhythmically to ensure that the heart beats efficiently, supplying oxygen-rich blood to organs and tissues. Problems with the myocardium, such as thickening or damage, can lead to heart diseases and affect overall heart function.
