Stress Cardiomyopathy

Stress cardiomyopathy, commonly known as "broken heart syndrome," is a temporary heart condition often triggered by intense emotional or physical stress. When a person experiences significant stress, the body releases hormones that can cause the heart to weaken and function poorly. This leads to symptoms similar to a heart attack, such as chest pain and shortness of breath. Unlike a heart attack, stress cardiomyopathy usually resolves with appropriate care and support. Most people recover completely within weeks, although ongoing emotional health is crucial for long-term recovery.
