Masada

Masada is an ancient fortress located atop a plateau near the Dead Sea in Israel. It was built by King Herod in the 1st century BCE as a refuge and palace. The site is historically significant for the dramatic stand of Jewish defenders against Roman troops in 73-74 CE. After a lengthy siege, the Romans breached the fortress, but rather than surrender, the defenders chose to end their lives. This act became a powerful symbol of Jewish resistance and nationalism. Today, Masada is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts visitors for its history and stunning views.
