Siege of Masada

The Siege of Masada took place around 73-74 CE when Roman forces surrounded a Jewish fortress in Judea. The Jewish Zealots defending Masada chose to make a stand against the Roman Empire's conquest. After a prolonged siege, the Romans built a massive ramp to breach the fortress. According to historical accounts, when the Romans finally entered, they found that most of the Jewish defenders had committed mass suicide to avoid capture and slavery.
