Métis
The Métis are a distinct Indigenous group in Canada, known for their unique culture that blends Indigenous and European (primarily French) influences. They emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in the Prairies, as a result of intermarriage between European traders and Indigenous peoples, particularly the Cree and Ojibwe. The Métis have their own languages, such as Michif, and celebrate rich traditions in music, dance, and art. They are recognized as one of the three Aboriginal peoples in Canada, alongside First Nations and Inuit, with their own rights, governance, and cultural identity.
