Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Canada)
The Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Canada was established to investigate the impacts of residential schools on Indigenous Peoples. From the late 19th century until the late 20th century, these government-funded, church-run institutions aimed to assimilate Indigenous children, often using harsh and abusive methods. The TRC gathered testimonies from survivors, documented their experiences, and produced a report to acknowledge the injustices faced. Its goal is to promote healing, recognition of rights, and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians, fostering a more inclusive and respectful society.
