Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada

The reconciliation-commission-of-canada">Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) was established to address the legacy of residential schools, which aimed to assimilate Indigenous children. Between 2008 and 2015, the TRC gathered testimonies from survivors and documented the impact of these schools on Indigenous communities. Its goal was to promote healing and understanding by revealing the truths of past abuses, fostering reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians, and recommending actions to repair relationships. The TRC's final report highlighted the need for acknowledgment, education, and policy changes to support Indigenous rights and prevent future injustices.
