The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Canada)

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada was established to address the legacy of residential schools, where Indigenous children were forcibly taken to assimilate them into Canadian society. The TRC aimed to uncover the truth about the experiences of these children and their families, document the impacts of these schools, and promote healing and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. It sought to foster reconciliation through public awareness, acknowledgment of the harm done, and recommendations for ongoing efforts to repair relationships and support Indigenous rights and cultures across Canada.
