Métis Nation
The Métis Nation is a group of Indigenous peoples in Canada with mixed Indigenous and European ancestry, primarily descending from First Nations women and European fur traders. They developed a unique culture, language (Michif), and history shaped by their experiences in the 17th to 19th centuries. The Métis are recognized as one of Canada's distinct Indigenous nations, with their own governments, rights, and communities, especially in the Prairie provinces. Their identity emphasizes a shared heritage rooted in both Indigenous traditions and European influences, contributing to Canada's diverse Indigenous landscape.
