Latin Kingdoms
The Latin Kingdoms were a series of Christian states established during the Crusades in the Eastern Mediterranean, primarily in the 11th to 13th centuries. The most notable was the Kingdom of Jerusalem, founded after the First Crusade in 1099. These kingdoms aimed to secure control over holy sites and territories from Muslim rule. Latin Kings, often from Europe, ruled these areas, fostering cultural exchanges between Christians, Muslims, and Jews. However, they faced continuous military pressures and eventually declined due to growing local power and the rise of Muslim leaders, culminating in the fall of Jerusalem in 1291.
