Kingdom of the Two Sicilies
The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was a state in southern Italy that existed from 1816 to 1861, formed by the merger of the Kingdom of Sicily and the Kingdom of Naples. It was ruled by the Bourbon monarchy. A personal union refers to two separate regions sharing the same monarch but maintaining distinct governments and laws. In this case, while both regions were under the Bourbon king, they retained their own identities and administration. The kingdom played a significant role in Italy's unification, eventually being absorbed into the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
