Carlist Wars

The Carlist Wars were a series of civil wars in Spain during the 19th century, primarily between supporters of two rival factions: the Carlists, who were loyal to the claims of the Bourbon family’s traditionalist line, particularly Carlos María Isidro de Borbón, and the Liberals, who supported the reigning monarch, Isabella II. The wars reflected deep political, social, and regional divisions within Spain, focusing on issues like central authority versus regional autonomy and traditionalism versus modernization. The conflicts occurred from 1833 to 1876 and ultimately resulted in the defeat of the Carlists, solidifying the liberal state and shaping modern Spain.
