Iron-Rich Foods
Iron-rich foods are those that contain significant amounts of iron, a vital mineral for our bodies. Iron helps produce hemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Good sources of iron include red meats, poultry, fish, beans, lentils, tofu, and fortified cereals. There are two types of dietary iron: heme iron from animal sources, which is more easily absorbed, and non-heme iron from plant sources. To enhance absorption of non-heme iron, it's helpful to consume vitamin C-rich foods alongside them, like fruits and vegetables. Maintaining adequate iron intake is important for energy and overall health.
