HIV
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system, specifically targeting vital cells that help fight infections. If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a condition where the immune system becomes severely weakened. HIV is primarily transmitted through unprotected sex, sharing needles, and from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding. Using antiretroviral therapy, people living with HIV can manage the virus effectively, maintain a healthy life, and significantly reduce the risk of transmitting it to others. Regular testing and education are key to prevention and treatment.
