Nucleic Acid Amplification Test

A Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) is a laboratory technique used to detect the presence of specific genetic material from pathogens, like viruses or bacteria. By amplifying (making many copies of) the target DNA or RNA, NAAT can identify infections even when the pathogen is present in very small amounts. This test is commonly used for diagnosing conditions like COVID-19, HIV, and tuberculosis, providing results that are usually more accurate than traditional tests. NAATs can be performed on various samples, including blood, saliva, or swabs from the nose or throat.
