AIDS epidemic
The AIDS epidemic refers to the widespread occurrence of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a serious condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system, making it difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases. The epidemic began in the late 20th century and has affected millions globally, particularly in regions like Sub-Saharan Africa. Education, prevention strategies, and antiretroviral treatments have significantly improved outcomes, but stigma and limited access to healthcare continue to challenge efforts to manage and contain the epidemic effectively.
