Treatment as Prevention
Treatment as Prevention (TasP) refers to the approach of using antiretroviral therapy (ART) to reduce the risk of transmitting HIV. When a person living with HIV takes ART consistently and achieves an undetectable viral load, they cannot sexually transmit the virus to others. This concept emphasizes that effective treatment not only benefits the individual’s health but also serves as a public health strategy to prevent new infections. In essence, TasP highlights the importance of treatment not just for personal health, but also as a proactive measure to protect communities from the spread of HIV.
