HIV/AIDS Crisis
The HIV/AIDS crisis refers to the global epidemic caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which attacks the immune system, leading to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). First identified in the early 1980s, it has resulted in millions of deaths and significantly impacted public health, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Stigma surrounding the disease has hindered prevention and treatment efforts. While there is no cure, antiretroviral therapy can manage HIV, allowing many to live long, healthy lives. Continued awareness, prevention strategies, and access to treatment are crucial in combatting this ongoing health issue.
