The HPTN 052 Study
The HPTN 052 Study was a medical research project that showed treating an HIV-positive person early with antiretroviral therapy (ART) significantly reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to their uninfected partner. Conducted from 2007 to 2015, it involved couples where one partner had HIV. The study found that early treatment not only improved health outcomes but also prevented nearly all new infections within these couples. This evidence supports starting HIV treatment as soon as possible, benefiting individual health and helping control the spread of HIV globally.
