Hieratic script

Hieratic script is an ancient Egyptian writing system used primarily for religious and literary texts. It evolved from hieroglyphs, the more pictorial writing of ancient Egypt, and was written in a simpler, cursive style on materials like papyrus. Hieratic allowed scribes to write more quickly and fluidly, making it suitable for everyday use. It was commonly employed from around 3000 BCE until about 400 CE, when it gradually gave way to another script called Demotic. Hieratic is essential for understanding ancient Egyptian literature, administration, and the development of their language.
