Archidamian War
The Archidamian War (431-421 BC) was the first phase of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta, two powerful city-states in ancient Greece. Named after the Spartan King Archidamus II, this conflict mainly involved a series of military campaigns, naval battles, and raids. Athens, with its strong navy, relied on strategy and resources, while Sparta, with its land army, aimed to invade the Athenian territory. The war ended with a temporary peace, known as the Peace of Nicias, but underlying tensions persisted, leading to further hostilities in the later stages of the Peloponnesian War.
