Athenian Empire
The Athenian Empire emerged after the Persian Wars in the 5th century BCE, where Athens led a coalition of Greek city-states, known as the Delian League, to defend against future threats. This alliance facilitated trade and military support but gradually shifted power towards Athens, enabling it to expand its influence and control. Athens flourished in culture, democracy, and the arts during this period, becoming a center of philosophy and innovation. However, its dominance led to tensions and conflicts, notably with Sparta, culminating in the Peloponnesian War, which ultimately weakened the city-state and its empire.
