Anterior talofibular ligament

The anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is a key ligament located in the ankle. It connects the fibula (the smaller bone on the outside of your leg) to the talus (a bone in the ankle). The ATFL helps stabilize the ankle, particularly during activities like walking, running, or jumping. It is commonly injured during ankle sprains, which can occur when the foot rolls inward, causing pain and swelling. Proper function of the ATFL is important for maintaining balance and preventing ankle injuries.
