Tissue Factor

Tissue factor is a protein found on the surface of certain cells, particularly those involved in the blood vessel walls. Its main role is to initiate blood clotting when there is an injury. When tissue factor comes into contact with blood, it activates a series of reactions that leads to the formation of a clot, helping to stop bleeding. This process is crucial for healing wounds and preventing excessive blood loss. However, if tissue factor is overactive, it can contribute to abnormal clotting, which may lead to conditions like thrombosis, where clots can block blood flow.
