The Kingdom of Jerusalem
The Kingdom of Jerusalem was a Crusader state established in 1099 following the First Crusade, when Western Christians captured Jerusalem from Muslim rule. It was the first significant Christian kingdom in the Holy Land and lasted nearly a century—experiencing periods of prosperity and conflict. The kingdom sought to secure and promote Christian control in the region but faced ongoing military threats from Muslim powers. It eventually fell in 1291 when the last Crusader stronghold, Acre, was captured. The Kingdom of Jerusalem holds historical significance for its role in medieval religious conflicts and cultural exchanges between Christians and Muslims.
