Tanzimat

The Tanzimat was a series of reforms in the Ottoman Empire, beginning in 1839, aimed at modernizing the government, legal system, and society. Led by Ottoman rulers and officials, these reforms sought to strengthen the empire by creating equality before the law, encouraging education, and modernizing the military and administration. The Tanzimat aimed to reduce corruption, improve efficiency, and adapt to changing European ideas, helping the empire remain competitive and cohesive amid growing external pressures and internal challenges. It marked a significant attempt to transform the Ottoman state into a more modern and unified nation.
