Nizam-i Cedid

Nizam-i Cedid, meaning "New Order," was a reform initiative launched by the Ottoman Sultan Selim III in the late 18th century. It aimed to modernize the military and administrative structures of the Ottoman Empire in response to military defeats and rising European powers. This included adopting Western-style training, uniforms, and organization for the army. The reforms also sought to improve education and bureaucracy. However, resistance from traditionalists led to its eventual failure after Selim III was deposed in 1807. Nizam-i Cedid is significant as a precursor to later modernization efforts in the Ottoman Empire.
