Selim III

Selim III was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1789 until his deposition in 1807. He is noted for initiating a series of reforms aimed at modernizing the empire, particularly its military and administrative structures, in response to growing European influence and internal challenges. These reforms, known as the "Nizam-i Cedid" or "New Order," sought to create a more efficient state. However, his efforts faced resistance from traditionalists within the empire, leading to his eventual overthrow. Selim III's reign marked an important moment in the empire's struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
