Janissary Revolts
Janissary Revolts were a series of uprisings by the Janissaries, elite infantry soldiers of the Ottoman Empire, primarily in the 17th to 19th centuries. Initially highly respected, the Janissaries became increasingly powerful and resistant to reforms that threatened their privileges and influence. As the empire faced military defeats and modernization efforts, discontent grew among them, leading to revolts against the government. These revolts often aimed to protect their interests or oppose changes that would diminish their power, resulting in significant political instability until the Janissary corps was ultimately abolished in 1826 during the Auspicious Incident.
