South American independence movements
In the early 19th century, South America experienced a wave of independence movements against Spanish colonial rule. Inspired by the Enlightenment, the American Revolution, and the French Revolution, leaders like Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín rallied support to break free from Spanish control. These movements resulted in several countries gaining independence, including Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile, between 1810 and 1825. The struggles were marked by battles, alliances, and significant societal changes, ultimately leading to the formation of independent nations and the decline of Spanish influence in the region.
