Root Nodules
Root nodules are specialized structures found on the roots of some plants, particularly legumes like peas and beans. They form in response to certain bacteria in the soil that have a unique ability to convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into a form that plants can use for growth. This process is called nitrogen fixation. In exchange, the plants provide sugars and nutrients to the bacteria. This symbiotic relationship enhances soil fertility and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, making root nodules essential for sustainable farming and healthy ecosystems.
