Peasants' War
The Peasants' War (1524-1525) was a major uprising in the Holy Roman Empire, primarily involving German peasants who were frustrated with oppressive feudal conditions, high taxes, and limited rights. Inspired by the Swiss Reformation and economic grievances, they sought social and economic reform, demanding changes in land ownership and local governance. The revolt escalated into violent confrontations but was ultimately crushed by the nobility and their forces. Although it failed to achieve its immediate goals, the war highlighted the growing discontent among the lower classes and contributed to the larger conversation about rights and justice in early modern Europe.
