Zwickau Prophets

The Zwickau Prophets were early 16th-century German reformers associated with Martin Luther, characterized by their radical ideas and rejection of traditional church authority. Originating in Zwickau, they promoted personal religious experiences and criticized the Catholic Church’s practices, such as indulgences and hierarchy. Their movement was part of the broader Protestant Reformation, influencing theological debates and inspiring others to challenge ecclesiastical authority. Although their views were eventually marginalized, they played a role in pushing forward ideas that led to the development of Protestantism and significant religious changes in Europe.
