Andreas Karlstadt (theologian)
Andreas Karlstadt (1486–1541) was a German theologian and a key figure in the Protestant Reformation. Initially a supporter of Martin Luther, he became known for his radical views on religious practices and church reforms. Karlstadt advocated for a more direct interpretation of the Bible and challenged traditional rituals, seeking to simplify worship and emphasize personal faith. His ideas contributed to debates within the Reformation, particularly regarding the Eucharist and the use of images in churches. Although he eventually distanced himself from Luther, his efforts helped shape the development of Protestant thought and practice in the 16th century.
