National Liberation Front (NLF)
The National Liberation Front (NLF) was a political and military organization in South Vietnam, formed in the late 1950s, that sought to reunify Vietnam under communist control. Often referred to as the Viet Cong, it opposed the U.S.-backed South Vietnamese government during the Vietnam War, using guerilla tactics and popular support among rural populations. The NLF played a significant role in the conflict, contributing to the eventual fall of Saigon in 1975, which led to the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule. The NLF's actions and ideology were pivotal in shaping Vietnam's modern history.
