Nagorno-Karabakh

Nagorno-Karabakh is a landlocked region in the South Caucasus, primarily inhabited by ethnic Armenians but internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. The area has been the center of a long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, rooted in ethnic tensions and historical claims to the territory. After the Soviet Union's collapse, a war in the early 1990s led to Armenian control over Nagorno-Karabakh. Despite ceasefires and territorial negotiations, tensions have persisted, leading to violence, most notably in 2020. The conflict is complex, involving issues of national identity, territorial integrity, and outside geopolitical interests.
